Cysts
There are several types of cysts that can occur in the skin. Two of the commonest types are epidermoid and pilar cysts (previously known as sebaceous cysts). They often grow steadily and epidermoid cysts can get infected. They are most often solitary. They are surgically removed when they are causing problems.
Other types of skin cysts include myxoid cysts (a fluid-filled cyst which can occur on a finger and cause a deformity of the nail) and acne cyst (an inflamed acne lesion which occurs deep within the skin).
